I Don’t Exactly Remember…

A Dorado Books Release

There are some people we remember because of what happened.

And then there are the ones we remember because of what almost did.

I Don’t Exactly Remember…

is a story about two people who have done what people are supposed to do.

They built lives, from the choices they've made.

Both have spouses, and they both love their families.

They get up in the morning, go to work, wash dishes, answer questions, come home, and climb into bed each night beside the person they chose.

They continue each day doing all the ordinary things that make up a life.

And yet somewhere in the middle of all that ordinary…

there is still a longing they have for each other.

Not an affair.

Not some secret life they have built behind everybody else's backs.

Just a feeling neither one of them has ever quite figured out what to do with.

A love that never got enough time to become what it might have been — but somehow still found a way of becoming something neither of them would never be able to completely forget.

Because sometimes loving the life you have doesn't erase the life you once imagined.

Sometimes being happy doesn't mean there isn't an ache.

And doing the right thing doesn't make the feeling go away.

You just learn how to live with it.

An Excerpt from I Don’t Exactly Remember…

HER

It starts the same way every time.

Not with some particular day in mind, or any special place.

Just a feeling…

A feeling like my mind is reaching for a picture of us that never actually got taken.

I’m sitting at the kitchen table when it hits me again.

There is laundry that still needs folding.

Something in the kitchen that probably needs wiping down.

My husband is somewhere close enough that I can hear him moving through the house.

My life is happening all around me.

A real life.

A good life.

And still…

there you are.

Not because I called for you.

Not because I sat down intending to remember.

You just come.

And I have learned that being grown doesn't necessarily mean you stop feeling things you probably should have outgrown.

Sometimes adulting means accepting that some feelings don’t end.

They just learn how to wait inside of you.

Knowing that they don’t need a particular day or a special place to find you.

They just come.

Even if you haven’t finished the laundry.

That is the world of I Don’t Exactly Remember…

Her life.

His life.

Their marriages.

Their families.

Their memories.

And the quiet question living underneath all of it:

What happens when the person you never really had becomes the person you never really got over?

Coming Soon!

Told through HER POV and HIS POV, I Don’t Exactly Remember…

follows two mature people

living full lives while

carrying a love neither of them asked to keep.

This isn't a story about whether they love the people they married.

They do.

It isn't about whether their families matter.

They do.

It's about something a little harder to admit.

That the human heart doesn't always organize itself according to the decisions we've made.

And that sometimes…

we remember what never happened almost as clearly as we remember what did.
